US President Barak Obama reaffirmed his support for Greece during a meeting he had with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras yesterday Saturday, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Poland.
During their talks, president Obama hailed Greece’s response and efforts on the refugee crisis and urged the Greek Prime Minister to maintain his current stance on the humanitarian crisis unfolding whilst reiterating Greece’s value as a strategic regional power.
Welcoming the US President’s remarks, Alexis Tsipras was also quick to point out that that unless the unrest in the Middle East is resolved, it will continue to be the main driving force behind the refugee flows.
The Greek PM also raised the question of Greece’s debt and the Cyprus issue, to which President Obama reaffirmed his understanding and support, pledging to use his country’s influence in every direction to achieve a resolution, adding that the US Treasury Secretary will visit Greece for further talks relating to Greece’s debt.
