Turkey has recorded 30,438 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest number of daily infections since April 30, according to current figures from the Ministry of Health. Also, 236 deaths were confirmed due to the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

For the same period Greece recorded 2,331 cases, 21 deaths with 347 people intubated.

Since last month, the daily case number in Turkey is on the rise at a rate higher than most comparable countries, according to global data, while the country’s vaccination rate by population is higher by the same comparison.

While the rise in the daily death toll in the country since mid-July was the sharpest in Europe and the Middle East, according to global data, deaths began to decline from September.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said the current number of daily infections was a “critical burden”.

“While the current active cases do not put pressure on the health system because they are young people, it is unacceptable that we still have a high number of infected people,” he said in a statement, calling for people to be vaccinated.

The minister added that at present there is no need for people who have received two doses of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine to receive a third dose.
